1a) Explain how some countries in Southeast Asia
have come together to prevent oil spills.

In the SEA region,Singapore,Malaysia and Indonesia
work together to help prevent oil spills in the Malacca
and Singapore Straits by implementing a mandatory ship
reporting system which requires all ships passing through
the Straits to report on any pollutants that are released from their vessels.

1b) Why is international cooperation.............problem of oil spills?

Pollutants such as oil spills can travel from one cuntry to another through the waves and currents in the seas and oceans.
Shipping routes may extend across different countries.Hence,oil spills are noth the problem of one country but of many countries.

1c) World leaders met...........Sustainable develoment?

Sustainable development refers to development that
meets the needs of the present generations without
compromising the ability of future generations to meet
their own needs.

1d) Give some.....may be met.

Sustainable development may be met through measures
such as managing toxic chemicals and increasing access
to clean water supply and proper sewage systems.


2a) Identify the measure.....in the photographs.

Photograph A and Photograph B show forms of public
transport. i.e. taxis and trains.

2b) How does this measure....pollution?

By taking public transport,the individual
can help to reduce the number of cars on the road,
hence reducing air pollution.

2c)Describe...........air pollution.

The government can enforce laws to control
the amount of pollutants emitted by industries.

3a) Food waste: 32 900 + 515 100 = 548 000

3b) What can.....in Singapore?
! Have more publicity campaigns on plastic recycling.
! Have more recycling bins of plastic waste.

3c) Study.......recycling rates?

# As metal is often collected as scrap metal
because of its higher value,more metal is recycled.

# Plastic is more difficult to recycle because
some types of plastic cannot be recycled.
